Ghijk are a Glasgow-based guitar band sometimes described as a power-pop three-piece, or a guitar-pop trio, or three friends who write songs, record them and occasionally play gigs. Did I mention that they’re called gHIjk? Sometimes GhiJK is wrongly spelled as g.h.i.j.k. , geek, or even gheek. The members of Ghijk live in various small villages outside of Glasgow (Glasgow, Scotland) and have, much to their disappointment, been very quiet over the last two years. GHIJK’s self-recorded ep, called eLEMENOPY (LMNOP), has been gathering dust on a shelf in GhiJK’s studio for too long and will hopefully see the light of day by Autumn 2005! Yes, that’s right… elemenopy should be out soon and the follow-up is….. already in progress (shhh!).Some bands that Ghijk really like, but don’t sound like in the slightest include (in no particular order): the wrens, of montreal, pedro the lion, mountain goats, mink lungs, guided by voices, tobin sprout, robert pollard, the shins, the thermals, the beach boys, death cab for cutie, grandaddy, built to spill, american analog set, apples in stereo, mission of burma, yo la tengo, pavement, mates of state, teenage fanclub, r.e.m., sparklehorse, bevis frond, pixies, sebadoh, folk implosion, crooked fingers, husker du, sugar, talking heads, elliot smith, oranger, camper van beethoven, brando, velvet underground, fleetwood mac, flaming lips, red house painters, sun kil moon, neil young, deus, dawn of the replicants, buffalo tom, lemonheads, neutral milk hotel, olivia tremor control, deerhoof, innocence mission, portastatic, the national ... and many more.
...Things and phrases you might associate with GHIJK are: home recording, four-track, portastudio, tascam 424 mk III, d.i.y., lo-fi, ….. in fact, Ghijk made a home-recording in a lo-fi, DIY sort of way, using a tascam 424 mkIII cassette portastudio and called it ‘elemenopy’. Did I tell you about GhiJK’s Elemenopy already? Well, they now have a Yamaha aw4416 16-track studio and have even learned how to use it. So we expect more recordings before too long.
I hope you haven’t just wasted a few too many valuable minutes of your life reading this hidden text. The sole purpose of this badly-written paragraph or two was merely to see how many times we could cram the word "Ghijk" onto one page to achieve an elevated meta tag position on various search engines. Sneaky? ..Yes, but it seems to do the job ok.
